What’s the best advice you’d give to someone younger than you?
Sometimes you need a distraction from the noise of the world. Lately, I’ve been researching random questions that make you stop and think. Not because there’s always one right answer, but because they challenge us to reflect on our own experiences.
Today’s question is:
💭 What’s the best advice you’d give to someone younger than you?
My answer is simple: Create a routine of self-care.
Life comes with demands, expectations, and pressure—from family, society, work, and even ourselves. It’s easy to become so focused on taking care of everyone else that you forget to take care of the one person who has to carry it all: you.
Find an outlet that allows you to readjust, realign, and reset. Whether it’s journaling, reading, praying, creating, exercising, meditating, or simply sitting in silence, make time for yourself. You come first.
Self-care isn’t selfish—it’s self-love.
When you consistently pour into yourself, you build a stronger foundation for self-esteem, confidence, and self-awareness. You begin to recognize your worth, understand your boundaries, and develop a sense of pride in who you are.
Another benefit of practicing self-care is that it teaches you how to de-escalate yourself when you’re upset, overwhelmed, or frustrated. Instead of reacting in the heat of the moment, you learn healthy ways to pause, regulate your emotions, and respond with a clearer mind. That emotional reset can make all the difference in how you handle life’s challenges and your relationships with others.
One lesson I’ve learned is this: If you don’t treat yourself with love and respect, why would you expect anyone else to?
The way you care for yourself teaches others how to treat you.
So, if I could give my younger self—or anyone younger than me—one piece of advice, it would be this:
Protect your peace. Prioritize your well-being. Make self-care a habit, not a reward. The relationship you build with yourself will influence every other relationship in your life.
Now I’d love to hear from you.
